The Position:
Our bank client is seeking to fill a Chief Lending Officer role in the Minneapolis, MN area. The position is responsible for the strategic direction, profitability, quality, and growth of the Bank's lending functions. The CLO oversees commercial, commercial real estate, agricultural (if applicable), consumer, residential mortgage, SBA, and loan operations while ensuring sound credit administration, regulatory compliance, and portfolio quality.
This opportunity has a generous salary of up to $180K and a benefits package. (This is not a remote position).
Chief Lending Officer responsibilities include:
- Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
- Develop and execute the Bank's lending strategy.
- Participate in strategic planning and annual budgeting.
- Collaborate with executive management to achieve growth and profitability goals.
- Represent the Bank in community, civic, and business organizations.
- Direct all lending activities across commercial, consumer, mortgage, and specialty lending.
- Establish production goals and portfolio objectives.
- Monitor loan growth, profitability, and portfolio diversification.
- Ensure consistent underwriting and credit quality across all business lines.
- Oversee pricing strategies and product development.
- Maintain overall quality of the loan portfolio.
- Approve loans within delegated authority.
- Manage the commercial loan portfolio
- Chair or participate in Loan Committee meetings.
- Monitor concentrations, criticized assets, delinquency trends, and charge-offs.
- Recommend modifications to loan policy as market conditions change.
- Monitor portfolio performance through key performance indicators.
- Achieve all new loan production and portfolio growth targets
- Manage and motivate all lenders and related staff
- Review asset quality reports.
- Develop action plans for problem credits.
- Ensure timely risk ratings and credit reviews.
- Manage portfolio stress testing and concentration limits.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state banking regulations.
- Recruit, coach, and develop lending professionals.
- Conduct performance evaluations.
- Build succession plans for lending leadership.
- Foster a strong sales and credit culture.
- Develop relationships with commercial clients and centers of influence.
- Support significant commercial lending opportunities.
- Participate in calling efforts with lenders.
- Identify new market opportunities and strategic partnerships.
- Manage lending department budgets.
- Monitor net interest margin, loan yields, and fee income.
- Improve operational efficiency while maintaining credit quality.

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- MBA or Graduate School of Banking preferred.
- 12–15+ years of progressive bank lending experience.
- 7–10+ years of executive or senior lending management experience.
- Extensive commercial credit experience.
- Experience managing multiple lending disciplines.
- Community or regional bank experience preferred.
